Bio
Allison Gaughan's work is based on the concept of Athazagoraphobia, which is the fear of being forgotten or forgetting. The primary memories she strives to capture and remember are those of her romantic encounters. Primarily the memories are not captured in figures or places; they are captured in clothing and accessories. With an original background in fashion design, it's no surprise that her closet plays a key role in her memories. Over time, Gaughan's work has morphed from watercolors to free-standing gowns to digital paintings. Watercolor however, is still a key medium for all her works. Recently, her work has drifted from the fashion illustrations to more abstract pieces, with references to her clothing hinted through each piece.
Every artwork she creates is not only inspired by her personal memories, but also the artists she admires. A few of those influences are Pablo Picasso, Maira Kalman, Henri Matisse, Hannah Collins Dean, Andy Warhol, Mary Blair, as well as many others.
Gaughan currently resides in Dallas, where she works full-time as an Art Educator and is working to create a book based on the Athazagoraphobia collection of 2015. To view her professional portfolio, please click here.
